Globalvia Jons Ltd. is contracted to provide Winter Maintenance operations on MMaRC Network A. The Winter Maintenance season runs from October to May. A total of 18 gritting trucks are used to treat MMaRC Network A and up to 25 snow ploughs are available for the management of extreme weather conditions. Globalvia Jons’ staff directly maintain and manage 12 routes and M50 Junctions are maintained and managed by M50 Concessions Ltd. on behalf of Globalvia Jons Ltd.
Globalvia Jons apply pre-wet treatments and use Vaisala Manager weather prediction to record, communicate decisions and treatment times and have live streaming of winter fleet information. Typical salt usage is between 2,500 and 3,000 tons of salt each year, and up to 75 precautionary treatment runs are carried out over the season.
The 2017-2018 winter season which brought the arrival of the ‘Beast from the East’ saw the application of nearly 8,000 tonnes of salt and 110 precautionary treatment runs, as well as reactionary treatments to numerous snow events including a 1 in 35 year event in March 2018.
